Welcome to The Index

Your In-Depth Resource for Quality of Life Rankings in our Region

The Index is the Seattle Metro Chamber’s research project to surface what voters believe so that debates on key issues unfold in a way that more accurately reflects how voters – our employees – actually feel about living in our region.

This research is not about who’s up and who’s down in candidate elections. It is about better understanding daily challenges from the perspective of the people who live here.

This region is the economic engine of the state, and our local businesses are competing worldwide to recruit and attract talented employees, either to move here or to stay here, and success hinges on our region’s quality of life.

“We all have a stake in improving Seattle’s civic health,” said Rachel Smith, President and CEO of the Chamber. “No one benefits when residents don’t see visible progress on the critical challenges we face.”

Research kicked off in August 2021, and our goal is to conduct polling on a regular basis. Data for The Index is collected and analyzed by EMC Research, a local public opinion research firm.

A regular feature of this project is to provide the cross tabs so members, policymakers and leaders in our region can dig into the data to draw your own conclusions.
