We know from The Index that public safety has consistently been a top Seattle voter priority. We need your help to ensure that City Council votes to make Seattle a safer place to live, work, visit, and do business.

This afternoon, the Public Safety and Human Services Committee will discuss legislation that would allow our City Attorney’s office to prosecute drug possession and public use while prioritizing addiction treatment and referrals to diversion programs. The legislation would align our city code with state law and ensure drug possession laws across the state are uniform and enforceable. The committee will likely consider the legislation for a vote next month.

City Council failed to pass a similar bill in June. Throughout the next month, we need your help to make sure this time councilmembers have no doubt that voters, community members, and businesses demand an all-of-the-above approach in addressing our opioid crisis that involves both diversion and treatment and enforcement of the law.
