Following today’s announcement of additional layoffs coming to the local technology sector, Seattle Metro Chamber President & CEO Rachel Smith issued the following statement:

“Employers in our region are making extremely difficult decisions in an economic environment that is challenging, uncertain, and unpredictable. Our elected leaders must adopt a do-no-harm approach to governing that focuses on retaining our region’s businesses. That means refraining from putting additional financial burdens – and where possible, reducing existing burdens – on local businesses, as well as prioritizing issues like public safety and downtown revitalization.

While this is a tough time for some of our employers, we are on the precipice of a post-pandemic shift in Seattle that will hopefully boost local businesses, help reinvigorate downtown and better connect us all through major events and new infrastructure. We ask that our leaders seize this moment by asking, proactively, what local employers need to keep their businesses and employees here, and to take action on their needs.”
