Following today’s State of the City address by Mayor Bruce Harrell, Seattle Metro Chamber President & CEO Rachel Smith issued the following statement:
“We applaud Mayor Bruce Harrell for using his State of the City speech to focus on the two most important things we can do to energize our economy: revitalize downtown Seattle and address public safety. Specifically on public safety, we look forward to seeing the concrete actions laid out and implemented – officer recruitment and retention, hiring the right number of officers, and standing up alternatives.
Added to homelessness, affordability, and transportation, Mayor Harrell’s policy priorities mirror what we hear from both our member businesses and the voters. And his themes of partnership, all-of-the-above approaches and all hands on deck are the same themes we focus on here at the Seattle Metro Chamber. As Mayor Harrell pointed out, it is time to pay attention to the essentials. Now let’s get to work.”
