On April 28 the Chamber submitted comments on the draft environmental impact statement that analyzed alternatives for extending light rail to West Seattle and Ballard. Our comments were reflective of the input we received from the Chamber’s Transportation Task Force and Policy Leadership Group through briefings by Sound Transit. We also incorporated issues raised by neighborhood chambers of commerce, community organizations, and the manufacturing, industrial, and maritime industries along the alignment.
The Chamber’s comments focused on our recommendation for a preferred alternative, station access and design, construction impacts and mitigation, and cost estimates and funding. The next step is action by the Sound Transit Board of Directors to confirm or modify the preferred alternative this summer prior to the continuation of the environmental review process. To inform the board decision, the city of Seattle will consider a resolution on the preferred alternative in May and June.
