Public Health – Seattle & King County is reiterating the ongoing need for the vaccine verification requirement during the Omicron surge.
Under this requirement, people ages 12 and older are required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result to enter certain indoor and outdoor events and establishments in King County.
Vaccination verification was designed in cooperation with event organizers, healthcare providers, and restaurant and venue owners to help to protect customers and workers, ease the effects of COVID-19 on our healthcare system and avoid additional business closures as new variants continue to spread in King County.
During the most recent surge in COVID-19 cases largely because of the spread of the Omicron variant, King County has seen its highest number of new cases yet during the pandemic and is currently experiencing a growing number of hospitalizations and deaths. Although the case numbers appear to have peaked and are going down, public health officials expect it will take at least six weeks to return to our previous average case numbers.
Given these circumstances, King County is not reconsidering or actively reviewing the vaccination verification requirement at this time. Public Health – Seattle & King County intends to review the program no later than March 16, 2022, to determine if the requirements can be modified or eliminated.
