Intercity Study Mission

An annual, domestic study mission trip for regional senior-level leaders

  • About
Each year the Chamber leads a group of government, business, and civic leaders to another North American city to learn more about our own region through the lens our destination offers, using these insights to develop innovative approaches to solving our toughest challenges. These intercity trips also offer delegates unique and concentrated opportunities to network with fellow participants.

Past destinations have included Miami, New York City, Chicago, Denver, and Charleston.

  • What past attendees have to say

“The trip to South Carolina with the Seattle Chamber of Commerce was one of the best study tours I have ever taken. It was well thought out and executed. With Charleston as the backdrop, the on-site visits were on point and the agenda hit on important business and political issues such as equitable growth and livability, economic development, higher education and how to support a growing region. I would highly recommend these types of intercity study missions to other elected officials and business leaders in our community.”  - Jared Nieuwenhuis, Councilmember, Bellevue City Council

“The Charleston trip was illuminating.  I learned a lot from visiting their Port and hearing about the region’s workforce development initiatives. It was also great to spend quality time with leaders from our communities. Being able to see how other cities address challenges and opportunities is helpful especially when you can collaborate with other leaders about how to move the needle when you return home.”  - David McFadden, Managing Director, Economic Development Division, Port of Seattle

"These visits are always instructive and often inform decisions for our own community. The primary value comes from putting disparate people on a bus for a few days and getting them to talk to one another. Builds friendships and respect for differing views." - Bob Wallace, Los Angeles Study Mission
