According to the State of Alaska, its seafood industry is the largest private-sector employer in the state, and has created over 64,000 jobs. In 2017 alone, over 6.4 billion pounds of seafood was harvested, valuing at over $1.8 billion. Of the 6.4 billion pounds caught in Alaska, over 3.9 billion pounds were taken by Washington residents – a value of $873 million.
