The past year has been filled with unprecedented difficulties for our region, but we have emerged with a stronger resolve and a deeper commitment to equity and justice.

Our greatest opportunity and greatest challenge now is building a better Seattle.

Today, we’re starting to see more signs of hope, but we must be clear about where we’re going and how we get there. In 2021 leading up to this important election cycle for our region, the Chamber will encourage candidate and election conversations that center around building a competitive, equitable and inclusive economy. As we shared this spring, we are not endorsing candidates this year. We are instead focusing on the most pressing issues we face.

In the months ahead, we’ll be sharing actionable ways we can build a better Seattle as we work together with city leaders, businesses, and community members to achieve a world-class standard of equitable recovery and dynamic urban vitality.

To advance a long-term, equitable recovery for the Seattle region we must have solutions outlined for each of these five priorities:

  1. Economic Recovery: A plan to get businesses back open and people back to work, and to rebuild in an inclusive, equitable way with a robust transportation system to get people where they need to go.
  2. Affordability: A plan to make it more affordable to live, work, open a business, and move throughout the city.
  3. Racial Equity: Each plan must address the gaps in health, wealth, and opportunity that BIPOC individuals, families, and employers face in Seattle.
  4. Homelessness: A plan that works to get people inside and help them get the person-centred support they need, and to which elected leaders will be accountable.
  5. Public Safety: A plan to build trust in communities, re-imagine services as appropriate, respond promptly to crimes, and hold police to the highest standards.

The Seattle Metro Chamber will be advocating for actions that advance these priorities and will be sharing progress over the months ahead.

This Build A Better Seattle effort will include:

  • Economic research and relevant data
  • Exploring solutions for regional legislation
  • Driving candidate conversations about our priorities
  • Opportunities to align with regional and local partners
  • Expertly resourced and shareable social media
